Picton Mahoney:
Space Planning Tips

Flexibility is often seen as a virtue in business but it’s also one of the most important considerations in space planning for your business or office.

"The solution was an integration of Inscape’s Platform and Planna products for workstations and Planna for the private offices, creating a unified look throughout the office."

When SGH Design Partners redesigned Toronto-based Picton Mahoney’s office space, flexibility was achieved through the integration of several Inscape products provided by Harkel Office Furniture.

Picton Mahoney, an asset management firm, was not only looking for the right look and fit for its office space for its young, dynamic staff but a solution that was cost-effective as well.

The solution was an integration of Inscape’s Platform and Planna products for workstations and Planna for the private offices, creating a unified look throughout the office. The use of multiple

Inscape products also allowed for a continuous simple and linear look using similar materials in both areas. “The fact that we were able to use Platform in the administration and traders’ stations but still maintain the same image and finishes in the private offices was very important to us”, said Art Galloway from Picton Mahoney. “With Platform, we can easily reconfigure as our needs change, thus future-proofing our investment.”

Inscape products fit the need by offering:

  • Flexibility to integrate across product lines and the ability to reconfigure as needs change.
  • Flexibility in product options to meet client’s requirements.
  • Flexibility in design application.

Space Planning Tips

As the lead designer for the Picton Mahoney project, Monika Sarkistan identifies other office space planning suggestions.

  • Integrate storage components below the work surface to utilize every square inch of useable area. For the Picton Mahoney project this kept the panel height to a “seated privacy” level, while providing maximum use of the horizontal space below for storage. Some storage solutions within this linear set-up became shared or communal storage units.
  • The ability to stack and add components is key in maintaining future “flexibility”. Platform is designed to allow overhead storage to be added at a later date simply by adding stack on frames and the storage to the existing frame.

Scala is a slim profile, contemporary furniture system providing strong visual appeal, easy scalability and broad planning flexibility. Utilizing tiles that measure up to 96” wide within a light scale 2.5” thin panel, the system incorporates mid-panel support to allow continuous expanses of work surface without the need for legs.

Supporting work styles ranging from open to closed spaces, panel to storage based planning, and contract to residential aesthetics, Scala helps address evolving workplace needs. Scala is aimed at the mid-market category which is especially important in these challenging economic times.
